Endodontic treatments

The horses endodontic tooth system.

Horses teeth are very similar to our teeth, but with a much more complex anatomy. The tissue within those teeth cavities are composed of cells, blood supply and nerves that can get traumatised or infected.

In some cases we have the ability to remove the pulp; this is called endodontic treatment, similar to a root canal in humans. This is a complex technique but is showing good results in cases where the pulp is not healthy.

Dr Verwilghen is so far the only one performing this technique on horses in Australia.
